Southern Baptists have a long history with cities. According to the 2020 US Census, there are 384 metropolitan statistical areas with a total population of 290 million. This represents 88 percent of the US total population. These metro areas are home to thousands SBC congregations of diverse ethnicities, races, and languages. According to the SBC Annual Church Profile 2020, 64 percent of all SBC congregations are found in nearly all of the 384 metro areas of the US. Some metro areas may have a few dozens while others several hundreds of congregations. For examples, Dallas-Forth Worth has over 1,900 congregations and is home to the largest number of White Anglo and African American congregations (963 and 434 respectively). Los Angeles, with 755 congregations, attracts the largest number of Asian American congregations (197). Houston, with over 1,200 congregations, is home to the largest number of Hispanic congregations. Finally, Miami, with over 600 congregations, is home to the largest gropu of multiethnic and other ethnic congregations (236). The maps, charts, and tables in this section provide an ethnic and racial profile for each metro area.
