The Ethnic Diversity Index (EDI) is an indicator of diversity for a specific area or community. EDI models after the Herfindahl-Hirschman Index (HHI) and is based on the shares of six racial and ethnic groups in SBC (African American, Asian American, Hispanic, Native American, Other Ethnic, and White Anglo). EDI scores range from 0 (no diversity) to 10 (highest diversity). Other Ethnic category includes, among others, Haitian and multiethic congregations. As already mentioned, a "prevalent group" is one that enjoys absolute majority of at least 50 percent and an "ethnoburb" identifies an area or community where no ethnic or racial group is prevalent.
