The Southern Baptist Convention has been known as one of the most culturally and geographically diverse evangelical denominations in the United States. This has not happened by chance; for from its inception in 1845, Southern Baptists committed to reaching all peoples and places of lostness in America and around the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Today, SBC is no longer just a Southern expression but can be found in every region, state, and metro area of the United States. Furthermore, it is estimated that Southern Baptists use over 100 languages in worship every Sunday. The maps and charts below highlight the ethnic and racial diversity of SBC at the regional, state, and county levels as well as in major metro areas.
